School safety is the act of the school community working together to keep students out of harm's way while in school or when participating in school functions by monitoring behavior (student and others), persons and items in and out of the facility, and by maintaining an environment free of bullying, violence, and disease.
Maintaining a safe school requires the cooperation of parents, students, and teachers. It is a multifaceted issue encompassing a decrease of violent attacks at schools, careful monitoring of hired staff, and building maintenance for the medical well being of the children. It is important that districts have plans to implement when a challenge arises and the proper professional training so staff can successfully carry out the plans. We hope these resources help parents and school professionals work towards maintaining a safe school environment.
